Can't Beat The Toddler Laugh

Evaluation Day

Dylan had his first evaluation for the Infants & Toddlers program today. Andrew and I have been a little concerned because Dylan still isn't speaking, so instead of waiting and hoping things will change, we decided to start the application process to get him into the county program. The initial evaluation was interesting. I was asked a bunch of question about Dylan's daily life, and then she tried some basic testing out with him. Well, we've got it completely confirmed that his motor skills are awesome. The dude is gonna be an architect or something when he's older because the kid can seriously build. As soon as she pulled out those blocks he went straight for them. She is concerned about the amount of ear infections he's had, so hopefully next week we'll be getting his hearing tested. Not exactly something I'm looking forward to. Dylan is a squirmy-wormy! The second phase of the I & T eval. will happen before the end of next month, it's just a matter of getting the right specialist out here to see him. For now I've got a whole bunch of new activities to try out with Dylan. Hopefully we'll have some new progress soon!

After the testing was done, Dylan and I had a hyped up game of 'chase' all around the apartment(sorry to my downstairs neighbors!). I wore him out nice and good right before his nap. He crawled under the desk and had a cute little monkey-ish posing session. These were some of the only ones where he didn't have a finger right up in the camera. The kid can't point to general things he wants, but as soon as that camera is out, he becomes Pointy McPointer-finger.

Window Time

We have a wonderful window that spans a good portion of the wall in our living room, and it being a step up from the ground makes it one of Dylan's favorite places to jump from, or slide along. He was doing this cute thing where he'd lift one leg up and then slide in that direction, then he'd go back the other way. He's a cute little scooter.

Just Because

He's such a cutie.

One Determined Little Dude

I don't give Dylan enough credit. He's such a smarty. Lately he's been all about using everyday things to get to what he wants. I've had to rearrange furniture to make things harder for him, but it's not workin. Remember those books my Mom got from Costco, the edible ones? Well I kept them out of reach for a few days on top of the computer. Outta his sight, outta his/my mind, right? Wrong.
Now this was a complicated process, kinda. He got on the glider, reached the drawer, pulled it out, stepped up into the drawer, onto the desk, and onto the keyboard for a tiny bit of extra height(which royally screwed our computer for a while). Along the way he found the wheat thins and dumped them all over the desk. He then went for the books. He had 3 out of 4 once Andrew and I got to him. And of course, before removing him from the situation, we took pictures. He actually did this same thing a few weeks ago, going from the couch to the desk, where he wiped it almost clean of anything that was on it. I've gotta find those pictures. And I need to put all my furniture 2 feet higher off the ground. Oh goodness.

Brain Washed

When Dylan was just a few months old and sleeping in his bassinet, my Dad would cross the little dude's feet over and pose his hands behind his head. Sounds a bit strange, but it's something my Dad does when he's relaxing, so it was very cute to see. Now, over a year later, I can recognize the early brain washing attempts. Dylan is constantly crossing his legs when he's laying down, and even if he's sitting up or propped up on a pillow, those hands end up behind his head. Don't believe me? Stare at some cuteness....*From Dec. 08, but I just found it, and it further proves my point :o)
*I had to snap this quick. He looked so moody staring out the window.
*He turns into such a ham when he sees the camera.
*And the man behind the brain washing. Hilarious.
I love the guys in my life. They're keepers.

Short Story

This happened yesterday and I just had to share.....Last night we were all driving in the car, Andrew and I talking, while Dylan was in the back jabbering and randomly shrieking. At a pause in conversation, Andrew went to turn down the radio and said, "This guy sucks! They'll put anyone on the radio." I laughed so hard because the radio was already off. He was trying to turn down Dylan

Too bad kids don't really have a volume dial. That could be handy!

Blah

I retract my previous statement. I thought it was plastic. I was wrong. Another one bites the dust.

I Love Love Love Costco

My Momma stopped off here this morning with wonderful little things for the Dylan dude. Two outfits and two books. Now, normally books for him terrify me because as much as he loves flipping the pages, he likes the taste of them better. I have to keep books out of his reach unless we read with him because he'll just walk around gnawing on the edges. So, knowing how difficult this is to deal with, my mom found the perfect books. Costco has little animal shaped books that are made out of plastic with the stories glued on. I'm happy to say, they are Dylan-bite proof! (Notice the raised pinky. He's hilarious.)She dropped them off about 15 minutes ago and he's been running all around the apartment with them, randomly stopping to flip through them. After the first few minutes of doing this, he needed some comfy couch time to relax with them. I'm completely surprised I was able to get that picture. I had about 7 seconds, and I'm happy it didn't come out blurry. I love how he looks completely relaxed. Thanks Momma!

B.H.S.~Learn It, Live It, I Hate It

About a month ago Dylan slipped off his little fire truck and banged his head pretty bad on the tv cabinet knob. He let out a cry, and then stopped. Andrew and I flipped when we saw his mouth still open and his lips turning blue. After blowing in his face and giving him a light pounding on the back, we were lost on what to do. Andrew finally stuck his finger down his throat to gag him. Thank goodness for that gag reflex. Now, all this happened in about 45 seconds, but it was beyond freaky. It's happened more and more frequently since then, and always after he gets hurt. I took him into his pediatrician on Monday and was told that what he does is called a Breath-Holding Spell and is considered normal. Instead of gagging him, we should just lay him down on the floor and wait for him to pass out. Not exactly thrilling information. It hasn't happened since Monday and I'm debating whether or not to actually do what he said. I don't know if I can watch him pass out from it and just hope he starts breathing again. The last time it happened he turned away from us and got up on the couch, so I thought everything was ok. Then he started stumbling and falling over before we saw that he was blue again. I can't even imagine what was going through his mind. That would be terrifying for even me to go through. I guess I'll just have to deal with it if it happens again. Andrew did the same thing when he was Dylan's age. I guess that's comforting. Well despite the unsettling news I got at the doctor's office, I did get a few good things out of it. I've made it a habit that each time I take him to his pediatrician I take some pictures of him. Usually they've been of him just in his diaper because of the nurse's orders to strip him down, but I lucked out with these clothed ones. I can't get over how old he looks. Not at all like he's just 19 months.

I absolutely love that t-shirt. Pig Pen was always my favorite. It's funny to see it on him because he's a surprisingly clean kid. Takes after his mom :o)
